Everyone should have some delicious healthy dips in their recipe arsenal… especially when Super Bowl Sunday is upon us. Here’s a riff on guacamole. It has an avocado base, some wilted kale and chunks of hearts of palm. My favorite way to eat it is with some sprouted grain chips and a little hot sauce.
Truth be told, when I was testing out this recipe, my husband and I were the only two at home. So, we ate it with the chips but there was so much left over that I ate it on top of grilled chicken the next day and when I was hungry after the gym, I had a couple of big spoonfuls…
I love the addition of hemp seeds in this recipe. You won’t even know they are there, but you will reap their benefits. They are high in protein, easily digestible, and contain a full complement of amino acids. They contain disease-fighting phytonutrients that are good for your blood, immune system, tissues and skin.
Avocados are one of my favorite foods, both for their health benefits and just because they taste great. In Chinese medicine, some practitioners recommend avocados to raise the sperm count. I like them because they are good for anemia, dry skin, palpitations and hot flashes due to menopause.

The hearts of palm in this dip helps create a great texture, offers extra vitamin B-6, and contains a good dose of potassium.
Saute the kale withe the garlic…
Chop the hearts of palm and mash the avocado…
Mix it all together with lime juice, hemp seeds, garlic and some hot sauce if you are so inclined…
Serve with healthy chips, vegetables, or a just a spoon… Enjoy!
Avocado, Kale, And Hearts Of Palm Dip
(makes one good size bowl to serve with chips)
recipe adapted from: Blissful Basil
2 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
3 oz. baby kale leaves, roughly chopped
1 large garlic clove, minced
sea salt and black pepper to taste
1 14-oz. jar of hearts of palm, roughly chopped
2 avocados, mashed
juice of one large lime
2 Tbs hemp seeds
hot sauce to taste (optional)
Heat the oil in a large pan until hot. Quickly saute the kale and the garlic just until the kale is wilted. In a bowl, stir together the mashed avocado, chopped kale, hearts of palm, lime juice, hemp seeds, garlic clove and a generous amount of salt and pepper. Add hot sauce if you like, or pass the bottle of hot sauce on the side. Serve with chips, vegetables, or whatever you like to dip. Enjoy!
